Day 2: The Button Bracelet

Today I completed my first button bracelet!  To be fair, I actually started this project this past weekend; however, I didn't officially finish it until this evening in between my 12 band lessons. This was my first real attempt at a complicated piece of jewelry.  I've put beads on a string  or fancy braided that plastic rope stuff like any other 13 year old girl from the 90s, but I had never tried anything like this before.  I am now certain that I can figure out economical ways to create many more types of unique jewelry.

I got the idea for this creative piece of jewelry from my dear friend, Myrriah...whose mother-in-law had made one of these unique bracelets.  The cool thing about these bracelets is that they are made from safety pins, buttons and beads.  I decided I wanted to make two of these bracelets: a gold themed one and a silver themed one.  You see the result of my gold attempts below.  My goal was to make my version of the button bracelet a little more refined.  I found gold safety pins and elaborate gold beads to separate each safety pin from the next.  The result was an elegant base to an eclectic, yet somehow uniform arrangement of buttons.

I encountered only the problem of getting the bracelet the right size with the correct amount of elasticity.  I had to restring the bracelet twice but love the end result.  It's comfortable and has no gaps!  Please enjoy the photos of today's new thing! I'm very much looking forward to working on my silver version this week...I just need to find a few more silver buttons.
