The Grimm...it's not what you think!

No, this is not another Harry Potter related post...though I may tag it as such just because I feel like it.  The title of this entry is referring to a new show I just started watching this week on the recommendation of my sister who said something like, "Angela, you should watch this show because it has all that weird stuff in it that you like."

The new show is simply called "Grimm" and features the story of a detective who discovers he can see "people" for what they really are--fairy tale creatures hiding in our world. As more and more strange things happen, his aunt appears, telling him he is descended from a long line of "grimms" who have to "hunt down the bad ones".  Suddenly it seems that every crime he encounters is committed by one of a host of new creatures I've never heard of before (ziegevolk, bludbot, mellifer, jagerbar and hexenbiest so far).

Things I like about it:
1) The reformed "big bad wolf" character that helps Nick out is pretty funny
2) The way they work original fairy tale themes and echoes of the old stories into each episode is really nice
3) There is great suspense...I will definitely keep watching to find out what the heck is going on

Things that bug me:
1) It is a bit corny...as many supernatural TV series turn out to be.  Example: the guys out to kill Nick carry a scythe around that is engraved with words meaning "the reaper of the grimms", aka The Grim Reaper...
2) Nick is too likable, too noble and, somehow, just not that interesting
3) It may be a bit predictable at times...and the falling action is way to quick

I recommend this show to people who like to escape from daily life for just a bit but don't want to completely leave reality behind.  These people must also be forgiving of slightly predictable plots and occasionally corny lines.  I personally am leaning a bit more towards Once Upon a Time than Grimm right now even though the former is even less realistic and perhaps more corny.  I am still watching both, though, if that means anything to you!

Nick and Hank (who, of course, is in the dark about Nick's "powers")
