The Brilliant Idea

Yesterday I purchased a birthday gift at a drive-through window for the first time ever.  Though I've been through the Starbucks drive-through many times, I had not yet purchased something for someone other than myself in this way.  Not only did I purchase the gift, but I had it gift wrapped--all while I sat in the comfort of my warm vehicle talking to my nice husband.  As we were driving away, birthday gift sitting in my lap, it hit me: the brilliant idea that was going to take more of the magic out of birthday and Christmas shopping...and make me millions.  "I will open a drive-through gift shop." I said to Ben, who took it in stride--as he always does when I hatch a hair-brained scheme.  "People could order in advance or from the menu," I continued, "while their gift is wrapped and handed to them within minutes.  We could call it "Drive By Shopping", "You Want Bows With That?" or "Please Pull Up To The Next Holiday".  I was on a roll, until I started naming the place.  Ben suggested I stick to music...

Well, the idea is there for the taking, if any of you want it!

Angela's Corner of Self-Discovery:  Tonight I realized that I love my imagination.  It can make sad things happy, turn boring moments into adventures, and always keeps things interesting.  I'm sure we all have moments when we imagine ourselves as superheroes, spies, or other awesome things.  Well, there are two main moments in daily life where my imagination takes over and helps turn something ordinary into something exciting...even if it is slightly ridiculous:  1) Whenever I drive on the interstate later in the evening--when traffic is thinning but not too thin--I like to imagine that I'm being tailed and must take evasive action to lose the fiend before I get home.  It helps if I have some great car chase music playing in the background. Don't worry, Mom and Dad, I'm a safe evasive driver!

(2) Does a gust of wind ever come up at just the perfect moment when you're wearing a trench coat--puffing it out like a cape around you?  Well, it does for me...frequently.  There is nothing more imposing (in a cool, Matrix-style way) then coming around a corner, coat billowing, crazy curly hair flying out in all directions, walking confidently to the front door of an ordinary apartment building, stubbing your toe on the front stoop...well, it started out alright.  Anyway, it's the small moments of seeing things another way that I'll always treasure, even when they're short-lived or end with me exiting at North Avenue with nobody on my trail.

  1. This is why I wear long coats as much as possible.
