The View From Up Here

This past summer Ben and I went to State Fair. While we were there, Ben decided he wanted to try climbing the rock wall. Being the supportive wife that I am--always encouraging others to try new things--I seconded his desire and cheered him on as he effortlessly climbed to the top of the wall in no time at all.  When he once again had both feet firmly planted on the ground, the guy manning the booth gave us two coupons to come climbing at Adventure Rock in Pewaukee.  We promised we would and went on our way...most likely heading for the cream puff barn.

Eight months later, we finally got our act together and went to use our now-expired coupons (which they honored anyway...nice guys).  After an intense 15 minute orientation and signing the typical "it's your own fault if you fall 20 feet and break all your bones" waiver, we strapped into our harnesses and got to work. Ben was awesome, of course, being as strong as he is and all. Based on limited previous experience, I was expecting to be rather terrible at this climbing thing.  I was pleasantly surprised, though, when I quickly got to the top of the first wall...and the second...and the third.  I felt like Tom Cruise at the beginning of Mission Impossible 2...or was it 3...where he's hanging from the impossibly high cliff with no gear. Speaking of no gear, the next time we go, I would like to try "bouldering" in one of their two bouldering caves.  In these rooms you climb shorter, stockier walls without a harness, using incredible strength that I do not yet possess.  I won't let that stop me, though, in my quest to try new things.

This is not Adventure Rock...or us...but it looks mostly like this

We went home to rest and watch The Adventures of Tin-Tin, a film that I highly recommend.  The animation is awesome and I was laughing constantly.  I imagine fans of the original comic will love this movie even more than I did.

  2. Don't forget, I climbed that tower at the fair after the attendant "accidentally" threw a grape at you. It was also the day of the State Fair riot.
