The Reluctant Hufflepuff

Before I talk about what is new today, I must provide a little background information for the less Potter-familiar people that are currently reading my blog.  Hopefully all of you are at least aware of the literary hero known as Harry Potter.  You may also be aware of the fact that the final installment of the HP films--HP and the Deathly Hallows Part II--made its debut this past July.  With the books and movies done, the HP fandom was ready for something new...something to help fill the void.  Therefore, J.K. Rowling announced Pottermore.  It basically is an interactive web site in which people of all ages can experience and explore the books of Harry Potter once again.  The difference is, this time we can all be a part of the process: discovering new material and backstories, being sorted, getting a wand, finding chocolate frog cards, etc.  It will also serve as the source for purchasing e-book versions of all the books. In short, it's very exciting!  It will open to everyone in October, but in the meantime, those of us selected to be beta testers can play and share our comments and suggestions.

Anyway, down to the new thing.  Last night I was finally able to go through a good chunk of material as the website was not down for maintenance or very, very slow due to all the eager beta testers. I was anxious to get to the sorting chapter so I could finally discover what house I was in.  After choosing my pet (a Siamese cat named Claude Vaughn Hohenstein) and being chosen by my wand (Chestnut/Unicorn core/slightly springy), I made it to the Great Hall and was sorted.  I answered my questions as honestly as I could--and I stand by what I answered 100%.  And, as you may have guessed from the title of today's blog, I was sorted into Hufflepuff.  Ben's response when I told him, of course, was "What the heck's a Hufflepuff?!" (quoting Starkid's A Very Potter Musical).  I, frankly, was a bit surprised.  I suppose I always thought of myself as a Gryffindor and had never really felt like I would be anything else. Now that the news has had some time to sink in, I have to say that I'm rather glad to be in Hufflepuff.  It just feels like the right place to be...I like yellow, badgers are an alright sort of animal, we're losing the battle for house cup which means we get to be the underdog, and Ben can go around quoting AVPM.

I have included this screen shot of my profile.  You can see my wand, Claude, my lack of house points and those snappy Hufflepuff colors.  I'm just glad I've got so much material to go through yet. Maybe it's good the site is down half the time ;-)
