The Bed and Breakfast and Cats

This is the first post in a series of posts that will center on my recent adventures at LeakyCon.  I must say that this is the first time I've been hounded by multiple people to get blog posts up...and I like it.  Nothing like a little extrinsic motivation to get important things done. This post will feature my home base during the con: Two Urns Bed and Breakfast on Greenview Ave. in Chicago, Illinois.

Having never stayed at a bed and breakfast before, I was able to experience a few new things all at once...well, mostly sleeping and eating at a bed and breakfast.  Anyway, the Two Urns was awesome. Located in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, I felt safe and had super easy access to the CTA. The building was unique and lovely, complete with a beautiful garden, ample community space, a great breakfast room and a free off-street parking spot (major money saver).

My three breakfasts consisted of (1) basil waffles with strawberries and ham (2) apricot crepes with Canadian bacon and (3) the most delicious veggie omelet I've ever  had.  I also was served a fresh warm muffin, orange juice and coffee each morning.  I would've loved to take a picture of each meal, however, having to rise at such an early hour led to forgetfulness and laziness.

There weren't many other guests around when I was there since I left early and returned late. However, the people I did meet were very nice and excited for me and LeakyCon. I was expecting people to smirk at me or have no idea what I was talking about.  I recieved quite the opposite reaction as each of them was interested in what types of things I did or who I would see at LeakyCon.

The best part of this experience was my room, La Chambre des Chats, the Cat Room. There were many, many pictures and figurines of cats spread throughout my room...each time I thought to count them all I remembered I was tired and went to sleep instead.  The photo collage below offers a fair representation of the felines filling the walls. And, for those of you familiar with Harry Potter, you will understand the significance of a room full of cats.  For the rest of you, go read The Order of the Phoenix and you'll be set.

I will definitely stay at bed and breakfasts again, perhaps even this one when I am in Chicago.  The price was great, the service excellent and the breakfasts way more than edible.
