I just got back from my weekly Wednesday evening band rehearsal. This is the band I play clarinet in, by the way...no conducting for me at this one, folks. Anyway, I just got back from rehearsal where we sight read a piece I have never played before, Tocatta Marziale by Vaughan Williams. It is excellent and very fun to play. Apparently it is some sort of standard repertoire that my band directors failed to share with me over the years. I will certainly have to ask both of them about this next time I see them.
The rest of rehearsal went well, though nothing was quite as fun as playing Tocatta for the first time. I must admit, though, there was a brief moment of confusion when I was distractedly looking around the band room. My eyes had drifted to the trombone section where I was shocked to see Robert Pattinson playing trombone as if it were the most normal thing in the world. (Hang onto your skins, girls, it wasn't REALLY Robert Pattinson--the star of the hit movie series Twilight and all-around good-looking, yet strange guy). I know this seems ridiculous, but this guy really...and I mean, absolutely...looked like Robert Pattinson. The strange thing is, I have never seen him at our rehearsals before and have no clue who he is. I think an investigation is in order and I will keep you posted.
Today I also began listening to a new podcast called Filmspotting. I listened as four movie critics counted down their individual list of the best movies of 2011. As a result, Ben and I have a whole bunch of new movies added to our netflix queue and general movie watching list. The first one we checked off the list tonight was called Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench...and it wasn't my favorite, despite it being a musical about a jazz musician and his girlfriend. Maybe a second viewing will change my mind...
