In an effort to achieve my newest life goal of becoming an actual writer, I am trying to write every day. This book is my most recent effort to achieve this goal. There are literally 642 writing prompts in this book ranging from the simple: "a guilty pleasure"... to the absurd: "You wake up in an open field wearing an astronaut suit and lying on a surfboard. What happened?"... to the uniquely creative: "You are the Grim Reaper. Write three different opening paragraphs for your autobiography, trying out very different styles."
Tonight I finally cracked the book open and was able to decide on my first endeavor into the world of 642 things to write about. I chose the following prompt: "Make a case for your favorite fruit." It seemed simple enough...and it was. Here is the result of tonight's labors, my official beginning in a very conscious effort to write EVERY SINGLE DAY:
"What is there to say about a fruit that hurts your mouth if you eat too much of it?! It's like it has a built-in "moderation alarm" telling you to savor every tangy morsel. A symbol of welcome and/or hospitality, the pineapple spreads love wherever it goes. Never mind its prickly exterior or the fact that I'd rather buy it pre-sliced than try to cut it myself--each juicy bite makes me believe that living on a desert island wouldn't be that bad and that the only way to eat a cake is upside down."
I'm really looking forward to this!
Awesome! So glad you got to get something you really wanted :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! (Also, I'm definitely on the pineapple train as well. Yum!)
