The Discovery of Dumb

I didn't exactly do anything new today...at least not yet...but I did come to a couple of new discoveries that I thought I'd share.  The first was a result of some accidental snooping I did while teaching in a teacher's office today.  I was minding my own business, setting up my music stand when this image caught my eye from a stack of papers on the desk:

"These Jokers are Wild"  Seriously?
Now, I love dragons as much as the next person...but are you kidding me?!  Who would seriously order this?  I beg of you, tell me who!  Not only is this an ad to purchase statues of dragons...playing poker...it also advertises that you can display them individually.  The only thing worse than displaying this set is displaying an individual dragon playing poker by himself.  Save your money, people, or buy me lunch!  Below are two images from a random-stumbled-upon-blogger who also reviewed Poker Dragons.  He raises some good points.  Thanks for your contribution, man!  Click here to view his full blog post.

Not a big market for this product

The actual results of playing poker with dragons.

(Thankfully this ad seemed to be on the top of a pile of similarly strange ads so I'm not too worried about offending the wonderful teacher who lets me use his office to teach lessons).

The second thing I discovered today is that Pogs are sort of dumb.  Come on, you all remember Pogs.  It was the game that ran rampant in the early 90s.  I know because I was there; I know because I had a few pogs myself.  I didn't realize until today, though, when I was discussing these cheap pieces of round cardboard with my colleague, how pointless they really were.  Did any of you actually play the game of Pogs?  Or did you, like me, collect them for their cool pictures and/or participate because of peer pressure?  Well, whatever the case, I think we can all agree it is a good thing Pogs are behind us.  (Nevermind that only moments ago I was frantically searching for the 3-4 giraffe pogs I know I still have somewhere).

Anyway, here's to dumb things that make us laugh and dumb things we thought were cool!  Tomorrow I should do something new...and I better make sure it's cool.
